Toronto Shootings
| 12/27/2005 | Posted by Patti under Canadian News |
You know, living only 90 minutes away from Toronto, there has been times in the past that I’ve spent a fair amount of time in that city. When my late husband was in St. Micheals for 3 weeks in 1989 I often walked from the hospital to Union Station at 9 or 10pm and never even thought twice about my safety. This year, there has been a record number of gun related homicides, most recently 7 boxing day shoppers shot, 1 killed, in the late afternoon not far from St. Micheals. READ MORE
The Season’s Done With

Well, Christmas is over, just New Years to get through and life returns to normal — such as it is. Christmas is not a time of year I get any particular pleasure from. It is a time when single people feel that singularity rather accutely. I went to church Christmas eve, one of the few things I wouldn’t miss doing over Christmas. After returning from the service I more or less went into hibernate mode. I rented several movies to watch over Christmas which allowed me to avoid the lousy TV lineup that passes for holiday programming. READ MORE
Nigeria Will Catch Up — Eventually
| 12/19/2005 | Posted by Patti under Canadian News, General |
As a society, either secular or faith based, we move forward as our thinking evolves. Not all societies move at the same rate but most usually catch up to where others are. The Anglican church in Nigeria will eventually do so. READ MORE
A Look Back … sort of.

You know, sometimes it is hard to believe that a year has gone by since I started messing around with blogging. I tried Blogspot first, then a bit at Live Journal and then over at Iuplog. All of them were good services but I found myself wanting more control, yeah I’m a bit of a control freak, over layout and content. So, I did some searching around for some blogging software that I liked, found a host and bought a domain… voila.. I’m hanging out here in the shadows.. well just outside the shadows. READ MORE
Torture Incongruence
| 12/7/2005 | Posted by Patti under Canadian News |
Does anyone but me find it a bit odd to be reading about witnesses/victims of Saddam’s regime testifying about what they went through at the same time as reading that the majority of Americans polled recently supported torture at some level? According to the same poll.. Canadians are pretty evenly split on the same subject. READ MORE
The Quebec Question
| 12/5/2005 | Posted by Patti under Canadian Politics |
So, the pundits think that the battle for seats in Quebec could well shape a looming referendum. Duceppe, has had the arrogant audacity to think it is possible to wipe the federal parties, specifically the Liberals, from the face of the map in Quebec. Many speculate that some, possible a substantial portion, of federalists will vote Bloc Quebecois as a vote against the Liberals. That is possible. READ MORE

Satisfied Customer

The last couple of months I’ve been having problems with my laptop which is also my main computer. The backlight went on it just after Thanksgiving. I dropped it into Microage in Peterborough on my way into my office on the Monday morning and Wednesday afternoon as I was leaving the office went by to see where I stood with it. They hadn’t even looked at it! I decided I was better with the computer at home using it with my desktop monitor then leaving it lay there until God knows when.
So, for a few weeks I once more became confined to using my computer at home in one place only. When your work needs a computer and you have to start doing things manually… it is a royal pain in the ass. I finally freed up some time about two weeks ago and got serious about getting it fixed. A friend suggested that I take the system into Pickering where he gets his computer work done as he’d been very happy with them. Read the rest of this entry »
