We Will Remember Them
| 4/25/2006 | Posted by Patti under Brave Canadians |
They shall grow not old, as we who are left grow old
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn
At the going down of the sun, and in the morning
We will remember them
In memory of our fallen Canadians:
Cpl. Matthew Dinning — Afghanistan, April 22, 2006
Lieut. William Turner — Afghanistan, April 22, 2006
Bombardier Myles Mansell — Afghanistan, April 22, 2006
Cpl. Randy Payne — Afghanistan, April 22, 2006
Lower that Flag! Not on the Hill.

Four Canadian soldiers died in Afghanistan on Saturday. The largest single day number of deaths since the Korean War. Those young Canadians gave their lives for a mission our government sent them to do. Read the rest of this entry »
Canadian Ally
| 4/23/2006 | Posted by Patti under General |
Thanks to Palgolak over at Heart of Bitterness I’ve discovered a government website which a lot of Canadians and definitely most Americans should be taking a look at… it’s Canadian Ally. Maybe if Palgolak took a good look at it instead of just trying to denigrate the government for being in Afghanistan he might get a clue.
I can appreciate he doesn’t like Harper or Harper’s cozying up to the Bush, hell I don’t much like Harper or Bush but don’t do it on the back of our Canadian men and women at arms. So, forget Palgolak and have a look at Canadian Ally.
Quit With the Electioneering Already!
| 4/21/2006 | Posted by Patti under Harper |
The Toronto Star reports — Harper’s road trip showcases his defiant streak. Defiant, hell how about stupid streak. Has this guy not figured out that he won the election on January 23rd? Parliament is in session and he’s out touring the country (on our dime) to tell us what he’s going to do and attack the Liberals.
Hey Harper!!… they are in the opposition so quit telling us what you’re going to do and DO something! Oh, I forgot, the little boy didn’t get his majority so he’s going to keep campaigning until he gets it. Ummm.. junior… someone should fill you in that the rules haven’t changed, when you get a minority government, you govern until the opposition dumps you or 4 years ends whichever comes first. That doesn’t mean you campaign until the opposition dumps you and then run an election.
You’d think I really like the twerp wouldn’t you.
Fortress USA

I see in The Toronto Star that Stockwell Day is still mulling over some sort of travel card to use when the American’s new law on border crossings kicks in and at the same time urging Canadians to get passports. Typical Day, doesn’t know if his ass or punched or bored. In the meantime, border crossings have dropped to a record low. Doh! Wonder why. Read the rest of this entry »
Cachia Responds to Excommunication
| 4/20/2006 | Posted by Patti under General |
What follows is a letter issued by Fr. Ed Cachia in response to his excommunication from the Roman Catholic Church. He chose to remain silent until after Easter had passed as he didn’t believe it was appropriate to do so during holy week. I find it troubling that a church which retains and moves from parish to parish, Read the rest of this entry »
Fr Ed Cachia
| 4/12/2006 | Posted by Patti under General |
For the last few months I’ve been watching the local media as it follows the struggle of Fr. Ed Cachia. When all this started, he was an associate priest at the Roman Catholic Church in Cobourg, St. Micheals. He was a popular pastor, well liked and respected as I understand it.
Back last summer he penned a rather well written piece to the Cobourg Star speaking out in favour of the Roman Catholic Church starting to talk about the potential ordination of women and ending the practice of celibacy. His piece coincided with the ‘ordination’ of 9 Roman Catholic women which took place on Lake Ontario. Reportedly Fr. Ed admitted to having also concelebrating mass with these women.
“I know that Father Cachia has touched the lives of many people in this diocese,” Bishop De Angelis, Bishop of the Diocese of Peterborough, said in his letter. “However, the gravity of these revelations, in addition to the confusion and scandal caused by Father Cachia’s public dissent from Catholic teaching, prompted the Diocese of Peterborough to investigate the matter.
Confusion and scandal caused by a priest standing up for his conscience rather than church dogma — my doesn’t that just stop your heart. The diocese first removed Fr. Ed for the pulpit at St. Micheals giving him a month to reconsider his actions and retract them. When he refused to do so, he was removed from the parish.
Fr. Ed has now started a catholic faith community of his own based in a community centre in Cold Springs (not far from Cobourg). His first service on April 2nd brought somewhere in the area of 400 attendees. The following Sunday there was about 250.
Bishop De Angelis, issued a letter to be read from every pulpit in the diocese last Sunday announcing the excommunication of Fr. Ed and directing “Christians” to stay clear of Fr. Ed’s dissident community. Hate to have to remind you there guy… you might have some sway over Roman Catholics but other Christians are really not likely to even pay you any mind.
The local Bishop’s office claimed that he had no choice. No choice? He had plenty of choices, he just chose to take the weak kneed choice in part, I suspect, because the dictator in Rome might eventually hear of this and the Bishop may feel some heat. Maybe the Bishop could find some backbone and remind the Pope of his own words:
“The servility of the sychophants, … who prize above all their calm complacency, is not obedience. What the church needs are not adulators of the Status quo … Conscience is the supreme and ultimate tribunal, even beyond the official church, and it must be obeyed.”
It seems that Fr. Ed should be elevated to Cardinal for his willingness to stand up for his conscience and emulating the Pope’s own words. Isn’t about to happen. For all Pope Benedict’s words mean, he doesn’t follow them himself. Long before he became the Vicar of Rome, he was known for silencing those who dare to think progressively and speak up. Those who dared to wonder if the status quo in the church is what should be blindly accepted.
The Christian church, be it Roman Catholic, Anglican, United or any other should never ever be so complacent as to accept the status quo without question. Christ challenged the status quo of his day and from that challenge the faith we now know as Christianity rose.
Bush in Iran
| 4/10/2006 | Posted by Patti under Canadian News |
So U.S. won’t rule out attack on Iran, what a surprise. Bush and his cohorts contrived reasons to go into Iraq and implement a regime change. It is no particular secret that the real reason behind this was access to Iraq’s resources, particularly oil resources. Read the rest of this entry »
