Peacekeeping in Darfur

There has been many calls by politicians, pacifists and others to end or reduce our participation in Afghanistan in order to send in peacekeepers to Darfur. That might be a worthwhile exercise IF there was peace to keep. Read the rest of this entry »
It Isn’t All About Combat

We hear mostly about the combat missions our Canadian troops are engaged in in Afghanistan, and sort of as an after thought, the humanitarian part of the mission. The Globe and Mail today reports today on a new program being setup by CIDA (Canadian International Development Agency) to provide seed money in the south of Afghanistan for tribes to draw on for building infrastructure.
It’s an article worth reading. An approach very much Canadian, empower the locals rather than telling them what is good for them. Too bad our government doesn’t do the same for its citizens.
