They shall grow not old, as we who are left grow old
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn
At the going down of the sun, and in the morning
We will remember them

The Harper government is about to bring in legislation which will be a version of the three strikes laws some areas in the US has. The Canadian version will be specifically aimed at violent or sexual crimes.
I think that every political party needs to get behind this legislation, it is long overdue. Some people simply don’t get it that they have to respect the laws and the rights of others. Those people need to be off the streets. Read the rest of this entry »
Amish Raze Schoolhouse
| 10/13/2006 | Posted by Patti under General |
Yesterday morning the Amish community in Nickle Mines had a private contractor come in and demolish the schoolhouse where 5 of their young girls met their deaths. This is a rare move for the Amish to have an outsider come in and do work like that.

UPDATE: As I feared, another Canadian soldier has died. The name has not yet been released. The good news, if you can call it good news, is that no other soldiers were injured.

Jack Straw, a British MP and leader of the House in the British House of Commons has set off a firestorm of criticism because of comments he’s made that he asks his Muslim constituents to remove their veils as they are a barrier to open conversation. I can see both sides of the argument here.
For Muslim women who wear the full veil it is part of their culture to do so when out in public. To ask them to do so places them in an uncomfortable situation. Read the rest of this entry »
How Are the Injured Soldiers Cared for in the Future?
| 10/6/2006 | Posted by Patti under Afghanistan |
Well we all take note of the Canadian soldiers killed in action in Afghanistan, it becomes somewhat easy to overlook the ones who are injured. Many of those injuries are long term, life changing injuries. An article in the Toronto Star this morning reports Read the rest of this entry »
