Peter McKay may have gone to Pakistan with some blunt talk about the need to close the Afghanistan / Pakistan border but he may have gotten a bit more than he bargained for when Pakistan informed him they are considering using landmines as one measure to control insurgents crossing the border between the two countries. Canada is a signatory to the Ottawa Treaty which bans the use of landmines. Pakistan is not a signatory.
Sextuplets in Fair Condition

In what is believed to be a Canadian first, a woman in BC gave birth to a set of sextuplets over the weekend. The babies are less than 2lbs each and were born at about 26 weeks gestation. The parents of the babies have only allowed the hospital to confirm the birth and the gestation period in an effort to shield their privacy. It is believed but not yet officially confirmed there are 4 boys and 2 girls.
A fetus becomes viable at about 25 weeks so these births are really just over that point. Doctors say that at this stage of development there are concerns about the development level of the lungs and their ability to see. If these youngsters survive they could well face some hurdles as they develop further.
Defector’s Report to be Private

Wajid Khan’s report as special advisor to Harper on the Middle East will not be made public or shared with the other political parties. Khan defected to the Conservatives from the Liberals, which is what he was elected as, last week after Dion indicated that it wasn’t acceptable for Khan to straddle the fence between the two political parties.
When Khan first took the role on, he was adamant that his findings would be shared with at least his fellow Liberals. He claimed his work was non-partisan and should be available to all parliamentarians.Â
