On Tuesday, Flaherty, the Minister of Finance announced some tax measure in what amounted to a mini-budget. He announced tax cuts, some of which we would have already been enjoying if the Liberals had been elected. He implemented the tax cut for lower income Canadians that the Liberals had set and the Conservatives canceled when they came to power. Flaherty also announced another 1% cut to the GST which fulfills a campaign promise the Conservatives had made and the measure where Dion is shooting himself in the foot.

Instead of capitalizing on the Conservatives implementing, once again, a Liberal policy they had previously canceled Dion is making statements that should the Liberals be re-elected he would consider revisiting the GST cut. Hey dumbass, stating you’re in favour of raising a tax, any tax for that matter, is not a way to get elected Prime Minister of this country. For an academic he doesn’t learn very well.

Well economists for the most part don’t think lowering a consumption tax like GST is good news for the economy, the thousands of people in this country who have to watch every cent that goes out of their pockets do. For those who have to watch every cent to survive, the cost of the GST or PST can be the make or break factor in determining if they will purchase a product or service.

When it is the break, that can’t be good for the economy. As thousands of good paying manufacturing jobs disappear in this country and lower paying service industry jobs are what people end up with, the number of people watching every penny is going to grow as they struggle to deal with debt loads created when money was more plentiful.

Dion needs to note that Harper didn’t get elected for his stunning personality or intellect. He got elected because he learned from mistakes, he was able to impose enough discipline on his followers to at least give the impression of a united front and was able to present himself to the public is an alternative.
