Liberals Need to “Show Discipline”?

Liberal leader Stephane Dion Thursday declared that Liberals, particularly the Quebec Liberals, need to show discipline. “I’m the leader and I want discipline” is what he is quoted as saying. UMMM Stephane, you are the leader and you NEED to impose discipline, it’s one of the areas you really are lacking.
It will take you setting firm boundaries on what is acceptable and sanctioning those who defy you to start garnering some respect within your party, hell within the rest of the world. You know, that is pretty basic stuff.
Dion has determination, that is clear in that he was able to run the course and get elected as leader when few, least of all me, even expected it was possible. His demeanour is not that of a person who is clearly in charge, so his actions have to put him in charge. He needs to listen carefully to his advisers and even more carefully to his opponents and then think for himself. I realize he’s an academic and that is really asking the impossible but geeze at least he could give it a try.
If he can’t think for himself, how the hell is is ever going to think for the country? He’s going up against an opponent that knows with unwavering conviction that he’s in charge and he’s going to remain in charge. He’s carefully chosen the circle around him and he draws on them to meet his needs. Dion, or any potential Liberal leader, has to do the same.
Where he can and should differentiate is that Dion’s opponent leads by being a bully. There is a difference between being a strong leader and being a bully and therein lies Harper’s weakness. A weakness that Dion can only exploit by being stronger and more resolute than he is.
Dion, have you considered a walk in the snow before it, and your leadership, melts completely?
