No ‘Purple Heart’, Yes Better Long Term Care

When it comes to the military, Liberal Senator Colin Kenny is usually a lot more in tune with the Conservatives than with his fellow Liberals. Occasionally, he seems to miss the boat. His suggestion that an award similar to the purple heart that the Americans issue to wounded soldiers be created for Canada is a miss.
Canadian soldiers wounded in combat now have the option of wearing ‘wound stripes’ on their uniforms. A visit to army.ca and a quick search on the subject produced a poll on the site that overwhelmingly supported staying with the wound stripe. I tend to agree. It may be understated, but that is so Canadian, especially our guys in uniform.
When I look at a Canadian soldier wearing either medals or ribbons, I really appreciate that they don’t have more ribbons than chest like you often see Americans looking like. I also know that each one of those ribbons I’m looking at, have a special meaning and for that I salute the soldier. (more…)

They shall grow not old, as we who are left grow old
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn
At the going down of the sun, and in the morning
We will remember them

Pulling No Punches

Someone emailed me this link of a commentator in England and his take on Muslims. In particular that in the rush to multicultural accommodation, that our rights are being walked on. I like it when someone can pull no punches and make a lot of sense.
Here is a transcript of what he says:
Well, it’s a gloomy rainy old day to be here in London, but it could be worse. I could be in Saudi Arabia, where men are men and women are cattle. Can I say that? The Saudi Arabian Human Rights Commission, now there’s a collection of words to boggle the mind, but apparently this organisation does actually exist, and they intend to complain later this month at an event in Copenhagen that Muslims living in Europe are denied human rights and are not allowed to freely practise their faith. How about that?
Being lectured in human rights by Saudi Arabia. What next, animal welfare from the Koreans? “Does it get any more surreal?” you ask.
Yes, apparently it does, because they also want us to stop linking Islam with terrorism, which is pretty rich coming from the guardians of Islam, and the guardians of terrorism. In a sane society, the guy who actually stands up to make this speech would be bum-rushed out the door the moment he opened his mouth. Or, even better, run out of town on a rail and dumped in the river. (more…)
