    I agree with all you've said. I, too, think there should be a mechanism by which appointments are made. I will go one step further than you however, and suggest that ALL appointments be made by committees and by merit instead of by political association. This includes Crown Corporations, Foundations and anything else the Prime Minister now appoints. I'd like to see the Prime Minister taken out of the formula entirely.

    I can't say I disagree with extending the method of selection to all Crown appointments. I don't have a problem with leaving the PM in the loop to make the announcements of who is selected or even of the PM making a nomination. It is important for people to start remembering, the PM is first among equals not elevated above all others.
