It was of sincere interest that I read the full page article written by Sadia Zaman in the Toronto Star a few days ago. It was refreshing to read of views expressed in a rational manner by a Muslim faith person.

Since early 1985 I have been involved in a major way regarding assisting refugees in Canada and internationally. Since 1990, via direct correspondence, I have communicated with many desperate women, men and children in places of asylum – sometimes refuge camps in Africa. Since 1992, I was very involved helping former refugees in Canada and those still in exile – many of these victims of inhumanity were Muslim people from Somalia, Afghanistan and Bosnia, located in Canada, Zambia and numerous other countries. In total aid was given to people from over 29 counries – many of the people were Muslims.

Now after moving from Waterloo – Kitchener – Cambridge area of Ontario two years ago, my involvement now is aiding/befriending an immigrant family and possibly another refugee family in September in addition to corrresponding/continuing to assist a artist/refugee father and large family in Cape Town, South Africa who fled from exile in Zambia for security reasons.

In closing I urge readers to consider helping newcomers to Canada through a Host program if available in your area. It is a life altering experience.
